Organisations worth following

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust have many sites across Yorkshire from the fantastic Spurn Point, famed for its migratory birds, to smaller sites like Staveley near Knaresborough. You can join the YWT but many of their sites are free to enter.

The RSPB is the prominent bird charity in the UK which has myriad sites in Yorkshire including the magnificent Bempton Cliffs near Flanborough Head, where in the summer you will see Puffins, Guillemots, Gannets, Kittiwakes and Fulmars. And Fairburn Ings near Castleford where you might see Spoonbills and Kingfishers plus a wide variety of waterfowl and reed loving birds.

Harrogate Naturalists Society manage a number of sites including Farnham Gravel Pit. It is a members only club and they arrange walks and talks. Their interests include dragonflies, moths, butterflies, plants and other flora as well as mammals and bird life.

The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) is a campaigning NGO which uses science and monitoring to help inform and lobby for wildlife conservation. Its many volunteers assist in bird counts and monitoring of garden birds and other bird species. It is a membership organisation.
